The optimal stage for your teams, executives, customers, etc, will depend entirely on your business, your industry and what you want to achieve.
First, determine the overall stage most representative of your organization. Your organization has an overall stage that pulls your customers to you. For example, if your business is a nonprofit, or based on altruistic principles, you are a Stage Four business focused on the needs of others. If your business is running a political campaign, a religious organization or PAC, you are a Stage Five business focused on ideology.
Here are some examples of the kinds of businesses and organizations you might expect in each primary stage.
- Stage One – Everything
- Startups without a clear direction yet
- Stage Two – Experiences
- Tour operators
- Adventure outfitters

You can see how each makes sense, given what they do and the kind of customer base they want to mobilize. This primary stage should inform your hiring and branding to a large degree. For example, in general, you would want to hire people who currently spend most of their days in your primary stage. Similarly, your core customer base is also most likely to be in that stage. In most cases, when in doubt, focus your marketing efforts in your primary stage as well.
