Focus
Welcome. This meditation supports the Stage Eight task of finding your purpose. This is a really fun task where you seek your purpose through seven different exercises, looking for the patterns. The hardest part of this task is just finding the time to do it and, and of course, being incredibly honest with yourself. In this meditation, we will walk through three methods that are tuned to internal exploration, to help you find your purpose in this life.
Posture
Take a moment to get comfortable. You can sit or stand or lay down. It’s doesn’t matter. You can close your eyes or keep them open. Do what works for you. You may want to have paper handy to make notes.
Presence
Take a slow deep breath. Let it out like a sigh of relief. Be at peace. You are here now. Take another slow deep breath, and this time, send it out slowly, consciously, with purpose, all the way. Be at peace. You are here now. Pause and repeat these breaths until you feel relaxed and at peace.
Journey
Let’s begin. When you were small, and you had nothing else to do, what did you choose to do?
Look back from childhood until now and ask yourself what have you always done, when nobody is looking, when you are not getting paid for it.
What MUST you do just because you cannot imagine not doing it?
What activities are just at the core of your being and always have been?
Staying with your childhood… When you were very young (3-5 years old), what did you want to be when you grew up? … WHY did you want to be that?
Then, when you were a teenager, what did you want to be for a career? WHY?
Then, when you were in your twenties, what did you want to be for a career? WHY?
Thirties?…. keep going until you reach your present day.
Consider now all the why’s. What is the pattern?
Can you combine all those why’s into one purpose, mission or vocation?
Do you see connections between what you have always done and what you have always wanted to do? Take a moment to let it all come together.
Now listen to the silence intently…
Ask your question, “What is my mission?,” or, “What is my purpose?”…
Write it down exactly as you hear it or become aware of it – do not stop to interpret it. And don’t dismiss it.
Now put them all together. See what you have always done… see what you have always wanted… see what the universe says… what is your purpose? Take a moment now to put it all together.
Return
When you are ready, bring your awareness back to your surroundings. Notice how you feel. Take this feeling with you and return to it anytime you like. Let me remind you that your result is not going to look exactly like anything you have seen before, so if it looks like that, you need to be more specific and carry out your mission in a more unique way, by a new method, or some other variation. Get creative and don’t let anyone else’s rules steer you away from your true answer.
