This song was inspired by Jen Stone – friend and yoga instructor. She suggested a song about water and that is when I realized I had never written a song about water, at all! As much as water and rivers are a massively important part of my life, I had NEVER written about a river. This had to change. I decided to try and capture her personality in the song and mix that with my feeling that life is like a river. There are some yoga references (flow, pose and breath) that I could not resist. I think they fold in beautifully with the metaphor of the river.
This is, to date, the most complicated guitar progression I have written and my first use of hammer and lift. The guitar was written in a coffee shop in Selfoss, Iceland. What an inspiring place full of amazing rivers all by itself!
