On the afternoon of my birthday, 2016 I got the call that my long time mentor and father-figure, Howard, had passed. (Yes, almost precisely as I had finished writing Big Crazy Good). Feeling my grief deeply, I was compelled to write this song. It’s about Howard in particular but I bet there are lots of us that have someone important in their lives that guided them and advised them and taught them about life; and that somehow, after death, they are still around to guide us. This is an exceptionally hard song for me to sing or even to mix without crying. On the track, I allowed my emotion to come through. I hope it will help remind you that those we have lost are still guiding us, if we can open ourselves to seeing it.
