Loving Fear And The Unpleasant Things

, ,
If everything is of god, then fear is of god too. We cannot exclude anything as not of god. Death is of god, life is of god, love and fear are of god. To put fear in the dark by excluding it, is to allow it to grow unnoticed and unchecked. When you put something in the dark, it doesn’t go away. It yet grows and evolves until one day, it re-emerges in quite surprising ways. Rejecting something is simply saying that you don’t want to see it or hear about it. You don’t choose to have anything to do with it. At times, these are good choices. But we must be careful about HOW we edit things from our lives.
Have you ever rejected a person? Maybe they were toxic and you smartly edited them from your life. Did they cease to exist? Nope. They continued to exist, to grow and to change outside of your awareness. Societies reject things like prostitution and drugs. Do they cease to exist? Nope. Concepts, ideas and feelings are no different. You can reject an unpleasant idea or feeling, but it will not cease to exist. It will grow and evolve unchecked until one day it returns and places it’s unpleasantness right back at the center of your world.
Have you ever rejected a specific fear, only to have it return? Your rejection does not make it cease to exist. Your rejection of fear, anger, death or other so called unpleasant aspects of life only causes them to continue their evolution and growth without you. But what if you could internalize that your fear is of god, and other people’s fear and anger is of god, and death is of god. And all the “unpleasant things” are god experiencing existence in its fullness. Shining the light of love onto these things somehow makes them dissolve away. It’s as if they simply want to be seen and loved for their natural existence. Don’t we all?
Loving something for what it is, is not the same as liking it or preferring it or even condoning it. Here’s another way to think about it. Can you look at the unpleasant thing as god experiencing that thing? Can you see god experiencing death? God experiencing fear? God experiencing anger? Can you have compassion for the divine itself in that experience? That’s what I am recommending. Try it and see if that particular thing, or at minimum the unpleasantness of the particular thing, doesn’t simply dissolve away for you.
