Focus
Welcome. This meditation supports the Stage Nine task of building skills for your purpose. In previous exercises, you found your purpose. Now, you are challenged to think through what skills you will need to carry it out. If your purpose is something you have never really done before, it may not be obvious, and may be a scary idea. This meditation will support seeing the possibilities of new skills that support your purpose.
Posture
Take a moment to get comfortable. You can sit or lay down. You will want to close your eyes for this internal exploration and visualization.
Presence
Take a slow deep breath. Let it out like a sigh of relief. Be at peace. You are here now. Take another slow deep breath, and this time, send it out slowly, consciously, with purpose, all the way. Be at peace. You are here now. Pause and repeat these breaths until you feel relaxed and at peace.
Journey
We begin with purpose. What are you here on this earth to do? What are you here to learn about? What are you here to give? What is your gift to humanity? Imagine yourself living that purpose.
What skills and knowledge will you need to make the best possible effort towards your purpose?
Do you need to learn specific software tools and apps?
Do you need another language?
Do you need physical skills or abilities?
Do you simply need more knowledge about certain subjects?
Even if these skills sound impossible, consider them anyway. Many things are easier than you think. And you are definitely smarter than you think.
For extra inspiration, what skills and knowledge have always wanted to try, do or experience? It is no coincidence that these things are related to your purpose.
As you think about these skills and knowledge, there will be, guaranteed, a voice inside your head that tells you this is crazy, or you aren’t smart enough or it will never work, etc. We all have this negative voice that works to pull us towards mediocrity. Any effort to forward yourself will be met with this negative voice. And the greater the effort, the louder the negative voice. Good. It is a sign that you are in the right track.
Choose one of these skills to focus on. Imagine that you have that skill, or that certification, or that knowledge. Imagine what you would do with that. How do you feel? Is there joy? Is there gratitude? Feel these deeply as you visualize your life of purpose. Take a few minutes now to soak in this feeling and in this scene.
Return
When you are ready, bring your awareness back to your surroundings. Notice how you feel. Take this feeling with you and return to it anytime you like. Now, make a plan to get those skills and that knowledge. For large or intimidating skills and learning, break it down into small parts that you can do each day. If you are learning a language, start with one word per day. If you need to read a big stack of books, start with one page or one chapter per day. Learning a new app or software tool? Start with one tutorial video per day. Starting with small efforts gives you momentum and progress that will build naturally. You will quickly have the skills and knowledge you need.
