To fully experience my humanity, I must feel the aloneness and separateness that sometimes comes with it. I must also feel the connectedness of two people and an entire crowd of concert goers. This too is being human; all of it.

I find it very challenging to feel the oneness all the time. As much as I try to spend as much time as possible in later stages, the realities of the constantly turning wheel of life periodically bring me back.

The concept of yin and yang, in part, shows us that there is a balance in everything. There is no good with out bad to compare it to. There is no light without dark. Ranges of emotion are not immune to this principle of balance. The bad news is that there is not oneness without aloneness or separateness. The good news is that there is no aloneness without oneness; no separateness without connectedness.

As sure as you feel alone in this world, it is not permanent. Given time, and a little effort, you will feel connection and oneness, and vice versa.

The key is to not think of aloneness or separateness as bad. Judging aloneness as bad distracts us from everything good about it. Aloneness is necessary for growth; for thinking about the bigger questions, for inward journeys. Without aloneness, you could never reach the stages where you can realize your oneness and connectedness. Aloneness leads to oneness; it is required for it.

So when you feel the connectedness, basque in it. And when the wheel rotates around again into aloneness, harness it as an opportunity for growth and insight.

Feeling connected feels wonderful and feeling alone can feel so sad and unworthy. We can think that our aloneness is because of something we did. Maybe it is. But usually it is because of something you need to do. Usually it is because you need to be alone right now to do that inner work that will set the foundation for your next phase.

The lesson is to appreciate both. Harness both, and see both as a balance the that helps you flow into and out of each phase of your journey.

A contemplative essay on the balance between oneness and aloneness, framing separateness as a necessary phase of the developmental journey that prepares the inner work leading to later stages of connection and unity.

[1886,31
592,140,280,282,238,281,153,591,57,86,113,285,284,283

post-978","project","type-project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","project_category-57challenges","project_category-observations","project_tag-aloneness","project_tag-change","project_tag-cycle","project_tag-development","project_tag-dichotomy","project_tag-human","project_tag-life","project_tag-oneness","project_tag-perspective","project_tag-purpose","project_tag-self","project_tag-self-growth","project_tag-self-development","project_tag-stages
For seekers who feel alone even after glimpsing oneness.
