I freakin love this song. It is so different, that I think listeners will be sharply divided. Some will think it is the shit and others will think it is just shit.

One morning, I was feeling particularly down for no apparent reason. I didn’t want to spend my day like that so I decided to try and counteract it with singing. I thought, I will just open my mouth and sing out what I am feeling; whatever comes. And what came was “Oh, I”. I like it! So I keep singing it. Then the cajon came. I ran to my RV studio as fast as I could and recorded it. It was a lot of spontaneous hitting record and allowing of lyrics to come out of me, rather than my more often used method of writing first, recording second. I have never felt so creatively free. By the end, I was high on life and the excitement of creating. The vast experience of highs and lows and every thing between is one of the many amazing parts about being human.

This song is like a trip all by itself. I swear I was not high when I wrote it or recorded it. That being said, this might be one of the best pot smoking songs every recorded. Let me know how it sounds when you are sky high. LOL.

The cajon is not looped, I actually played it for 8 minutes to prepare for the recording. As such the timing is not perfect but nothing about any of my songs is perfect.. that’s what makes it perfect!

Chords, Drums, Bass and Lyrics

DRUMS: KKKKKsKsKs
BACKING VOCALS: oooooooh I (repeats)
BASS GUITAR: 03 30 (low E string, dropped by 6 half steps)
ACOUSTIC GUITAR: A G A Em (slow single strums, no capo)

And something about this vast experience gets me high

I feel sometimes
I feel so high

Oh I secretly think you don’t really give a sh*t about me… oh I
Oh I can’t stop speaking out for the oppressed majority

Oh I don’t live my life on the page to just to temp your rage… oh I
Oh I might hurt your with the truth, oh sting you with the fruit of my mind
I don’t apologize

I feel sometimes
I feel so high

And something about this vast experience gets me high

I feel sometimes
I feel so high

Oh I, get covered in the shadows, drowning in the shallows of life… oh I
Oh I let it wash like a wave, the only way to let it pass and be free.. oh I

Oh I need to get away and be alone with the demon in me… oh I
Oh I dont see it as a fight, it’s a visit from a dear old fiend
do you know what I mean

I feel sometimes
I feel so high

And something about this vast experience gets me high

I feel sometimes
I feel so high

I feel sometimes
I feel so high

And something about this vast experience gets me high

I feel sometimes
I feel so high

A reflection on the spontaneous creation of the song “Oh I,” written and recorded in one uninhibited session as the artist sang out a low mood, presented with its chords, drum pattern and full lyrics.

[30,20
328,344,311,343,153,69,345

post-740","project","type-project","status-publish","hentry","project_category-becoming","project_category-music","project_tag-becoming","project_tag-confession","project_tag-emotions","project_tag-joy","project_tag-life","project_tag-music","project_tag-sadness
For listeners and songwriters drawn to raw, spontaneous creativity.
