Most people who are financially independent do not choose to let anyone know. They live small. They might live in the same house they always lived in. Or they might even downsize to a little apartment or condo, or even an RV. They might travel full time and seem to have just disappeared, popping up on social media sometimes to share a photo. They probably don\u2019t drive flashy cars. And they probably don\u2019t wear the latest fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are all around you, but I bet you can\u2019t spot them. This is for a couple of reasons. First, while you are getting out of debt and saving for your dream life, you are not buying fancy clothes, houses, cars or anything else. All your money is going towards the cause of independence. When you finally get there, you like your less expensive clothes, house and car better than anything else you might buy. You forced a level of minimalism on yourself and now you like it. But there is also a security issue. If people think you have money, they will want some of it. We will cover this more later on in how money affects relationships, and how large scale wealth affects security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But for now, even in this state of net worth in the 1.5-3 million dollar range, you are often better off keeping your financial reality under the radar. Many decide that they are better off if their children, parents and other family are not aware. There is nothing like family coming around to manipulate you for cash.
