The first step is to identify what stage they are in right now. Sounds easy enough. But it changes, sometimes several times a day. So each day that you come in to the office, the people around you could be in an entirely different stage from the one they were in yesterday. Chaotic, right? Welcome to humanity. But it doesn’t have to be so complicated.

Each stage has specific characteristics and challenges that make them fairly easy to identify. For example, that coworker who is always talking about headlines or politics is squarely in Stage Five. That board member who likes to talk about their volunteer work is in Stage Four, or possibly Eight and later depending on other factors. Once you understand the stages, a quick chat with anyone will tell you where they are today. You don’t need to pry, or get personal. With a little practice, it will be obvious.

They will usually give you all the clues you need. Why? Because we all seek to validate our current identity. We put bumper stickers on our cars, wear t-shirts and brand names and talk about our favorite topics every chance we get – all to seek validation for who we currently believe we are. And who we believe we are IS the basis for the stage we are in. Each stage is just a variation of how we identify ourselves. Are you one and the same as your needs? Your ideology? Your oneness? Your experiences yesterday? Let someone talk and they will tell you.

Once you know what stage someone is in, you have a good opportunity to help them move to a better stage that is more in line with their goals, or your business in general, or a stage that is more productive, innovative, etc.

A practical guide to recognizing which developmental stage coworkers and customers occupy by listening to how they seek validation, so you can meet them where they are and help them move toward a more productive stage.

[1882,31
36,1429,654,180,280,649,981,947,1452,1857,977,309,1248,655,112,302,186,979,978,284,980,605,332,1361,283

post-2443","project","type-project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","project_category-business","project_category-observations","project_tag-art","project_tag-business","project_tag-complete-connection","project_tag-connection","project_tag-cycle","project_tag-cycle-of-human-development","project_tag-finding-peace","project_tag-human-development","project_tag-lasting-peace","project_tag-lastingpeace-org","project_tag-life-optimization","project_tag-money","project_tag-poetry","project_tag-purna-asatti","project_tag-relationships","project_tag-religion","project_tag-science","project_tag-seeing-yourself","project_tag-self-mastery","project_tag-self-development","project_tag-self-improvement-2","project_tag-self-understanding","project_tag-society","project_tag-spirituality","project_tag-stages
For managers and colleagues who want to read people accurately without prying and support better workplace dynamics.
