I once told my mentor with a big smile that, “you are my guru.” She laughed “Oh my god, no.” She is easily one of the most wise women I know. She is widely And deeply educated in all things energetic and spiritual. She has mentored me right to Stage Eleven and beyond. She has offered me understanding as I now have students of my own and my students are taking students. Frankly, I cannot think of a more appropriate word for her. A Guru is simply a spiritual guide, a teacher, who helps bring you closer to your own reality. But try it at a party. “What do you do?”. “I’m a Guru”. I’m not sure how people would respond. It is sure to either end the conversation right there or help it go much deeper. Like a spiritual doctor, maybe they will start asking everything they ever wanted help with. Margo Anand had this experience as a tantric teacher. Once people found out that she taught workshops on tantric sex, they either ended the conversation right there, or poured out an endless stream of questions and problems to be solved. But even the spiritual teacher can feel unworthy of such a lofty can be afraid it will be misconstrued. We are all afraid to be shunned. We are all human. But it seems I will have to give it a go. I was adamant that my spiritual teacher should be comfortable with the title of Guru. Now some of my students have named ME Guru. And I had to lay in the bed of standards I had made. I must accept the title. I must own it. Then I wondered, what would happen if I really owned it? In this American, western, material over spiritual place. What would happen if I simply WAS a guru, unabashedly, like it was the most normal thing in the world? Let’s find out. You see, I think a guru is nothing more than one who has achieved Stage Eleven, and then helped a couple of others do it too. At LastingPeace.org we call this Master Mentor. That works too, the title of Guru runs of the risk of deification. That would be detrimental to my cause. But what if I could help people see that they are each a guru. That enlightenment and helping others is part of all of our paths. That guruhood is a natural waypoint on the journey of life for ALL of us. I would like to normalize guruhood in the west as something we pass on in a network like the one we are starting at LastingPeace.org. There it is. That’s the way. And one by one my students will have to deem themselves worthy of the title and own it. Are you ready to face yourself and your potential? Are you ready to become the guru that is already in you? But don’t worry. You won’t have to own the title until your first student gives it to you. 😉

A reflection on why those worthy of the title Guru shy away from it, exploring unworthiness, fear of deification, and the author’s decision to own the title while normalizing guruhood as a natural waypoint for everyone.

[31,1884
1840,36,654,180,280,649,981,1837,947,1452,1839,977,1838,1248,655,302,186,979,978,284,980,605,1361,283,1749

post-2363","project","type-project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","project_category-observations","project_category-society","project_tag-accepting-honor","project_tag-art","project_tag-complete-connection","project_tag-connection","project_tag-cycle","project_tag-cycle-of-human-development","project_tag-finding-peace","project_tag-guru","project_tag-human-development","project_tag-lasting-peace","project_tag-leader","project_tag-life-optimization","project_tag-mentor","project_tag-poetry","project_tag-purna-asatti","project_tag-religion","project_tag-science","project_tag-seeing-yourself","project_tag-self-mastery","project_tag-self-development","project_tag-self-improvement-2","project_tag-self-understanding","project_tag-spirituality","project_tag-stages","project_tag-students
For spiritual teachers and students wrestling with owning their role and the discomfort of being seen as a guide.
Dr. Kathryn Messegee (Kathryn Colleen), "The Guru Title - Unworthiness And Accepting Reality," https://kathryncolleen.com/studio/project/the-guru-title-unworthiness-and-accepting-reality/
spirit","growth

https://kathryncolleen.com/studio/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/E84403B5-678D-4836-AED6-B4F2C388EEEB.png
https://kathryncolleen.com/studio/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/CCA57320-6DC3-4284-BC27-49E433028503.jpeg

The Guru Title – Unworthiness And Accepting Reality

/*!
