Another trip around the sun is over. And I have noticed that my usual birthday existentialism has not come to visit this year with the same character. I am engrossed in projects big and small. But that never kept it at bay before. Maybe it’s because of the new moon in Aquarius. Or maybe it’s because I am spending my first birthday on tour. Or maybe it’s because I have been doing massive amounts of yoga and self study. But seriously, when am I not? There is a distinct feeling this year that I am where I belong, doing what I need to be doing, and having a ton of fun. Instead of feeling existential. I am feeling very much in my existence. I have come. I am here. I am free.

And yet, most of humanity is NOT feeling their existence. Students write me about feeling stagnant, or just maintaining, and yet frustrated with that stagnation. I feel this sometimes too, usually between projects. And looking at the headlines lately, you would think that the entirety of humanity is stagnant; in a holding pattern, or perhaps even cycling around to earlier stages again. Maybe they are. The truth can only be found for yourself, out in your neighborhood. Walk the streets. Talk to people. But more important is the conversation with yourself. You don’t need to wait for the world to be ready. Try something completely orthogonal. Read a type of book you would not normally read. Try a new physical skill. Look up your favorite words in a bunch of other languages. Change up your work environment. Any of these things will help to wake up your inner creativity and get you out of a rut. Meanwhile, you know the drill. Back to stage one, work through the tasks again. Each time is faster and more effective. So take a few minutes today to find your jump start into something new and exciting.

A birthday diary reflection in which the author notes the absence of her usual existential unease, feeling present and engaged, and offers advice for readers feeling stagnant—trying orthogonal new experiences to spark creativity.

[5
44,1419,864,540,1625,1926,1781,357,1005,1003,1481,944,934,1454,1460,1002,43,1929,1927,865,371,879,354,1006,355,1004,372,358,1589,1928
post-3579","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-diary","tag-art","tag-business","tag-complete-connection","tag-connection","tag-consciousness","tag-consciousness-mastery","tag-couples","tag-cycle","tag-cycle-of-human-development","tag-finding-peace","tag-global-peace","tag-human-development","tag-kathryn-colleen","tag-lasting-peace","tag-lastingpeace-org","tag-life-optimization","tag-music","tag-personal","tag-podcasts","tag-purna-asatti","tag-religion","tag-roadmap","tag-seeing-yourself","tag-self-mastery","tag-self-development","tag-self-improvement","tag-spirituality","tag-stages","tag-understanding-people","tag-writing
For anyone feeling stuck or stagnant, this birthday reflection offers gentle, practical nudges—try something orthogonal, wake your creativity, revisit the early work.
