The need for Reiki is everywhere. I recently made my favorite twenty minute journey up back gravel roads to a truly pasture raised egg farm north of town. These are not roads you would want to take a regular car down. I always take my Jeep. It was a beautiful Virginia Spring day. I was inbound to pick up sixteen dozen of the most amazing eggs. How good? Good enough to drive twenty minutes on back gravel roads. Lazy Sit Farm has the happiest chickens you\u2019ve ever seen. They roam freely at will around more acreage than you can see the edges of. It makes all the difference. But one chicken was not happy at all. There had been a fox attack. She survived with a neck injury. The farmers wife led me to her recovery area in a large crate in the shade where she could recover in peace and safety. She did not look good, but she was breathing. I offered her Reiki from just outside the cage. She took it right away. I got halfway in the cage with her to go hands-on. There was a distinct sense that she really needed this. Betty Sue, as they called her, soaked up large amounts of energy into her small, football sized body. She moved her legs a bit more, but did not raise her head. The reality is that Reiki brings balance. Suffering, in this case, languishing in an injured state, is a state of great imbalance. Sometimes balance means cure. Sometimes balance means letting go. Both vibrant health and peaceful death are natural, balanced states of being. For this particular hen, peace came in death when her caretakers found the courage to put her down, and end the suffering that she herself could not. Such an act of love is hard. But as always, nature balances out. A few days before, a surprise baby chick was found in the coop. And the cycle of life continues. As a practitioner, it is always hard when balance comes through death instead of recovery. We are brought up here in the US to see death as a bad thing. But it\u2019s not. It\u2019s a natural thing.
