Sitting in one of my favorite coffee shops, I overheard two different tables having very deep conversations. The first table had four women, discussing a workbook exercise about being Christ-like. They discussed far beyond their workbook. They talked about how they want their lives to be, who they want to be, what life could be like, how best to mother their children of different personalities and ages, and so much more. The second table was a set of two much younger women. But their conversation was not so different. They came in later and were not at all related to the first table, but you could not tell. They spoke about what they wanted life to be like, how to read the signs from the divine and how to design a life worth living. They spoke about dating and standards.
This is real connection in the real world. This is real conversation. And this is light years away from the one sided, shallow, meaningless, and often cruel and vacuous so called conversations that happen online. There was only love, support, respect and joy here. And these conversations had impact. The air itself in that coffee shop resonated with love and support and real connection. They left in their wake an energy in that space that was palpable. This is how you change the world.
I will not be surprised if global peace ultimately emerges from the coffee shops and workout studios of the world instead of the churches. Because nobody shares the real shit in church. They share it in hushed tones in the coffee shops and group workout classes among dear friends who do not judge, and they find solutions along with comfort, support and a good latte. They move their bodies, expand their minds and they move their lives forward.
This. This is important.
