Home Is Not A Place – It’s A Person

,

Rueben and I – we found each other late and are making up for lost time. So I am thinking about love. My revelation is that home is not a place; it’s a person.

The lyrics for What Home Should Be, started with love notes texting back and forth; Early on in our relationship I warned him: “Be careful with my heart; you feel like what home should be.” And he was so very careful and he is home to me. In all honesty, he was home to me from the first moment.

By some ideal, one day, maybe that person is our own selves. But until I reach that place of ultimate security (or maturity?) – being at home unto myself – home is my love. I have been in other relationships, but none of them felt like home. I guess I am suggesting the concept of your one true love, and that the feeling of home is how you will know it.

Home is comfortable and free; a safe and nonjudgemental environment where you are loved for who you are – flaws and all. Relaxed, not self-conscious. It’s like being alone with yourself, except yourself can hug you, comfort you, and validate you on a level that you alone cannot. Home offers up opportunities for growth and support for chasing you wildest dreams.

At the end of a long day, I come back to my house; but it is not until I lock eyes with my love again that I am truly home. It’s the deepest love, yes, but it’s the purest love – like being in the presence of the one love – accepting and kind; enveloping and freeing at the same time. Perfect love… HOME.

It’s a love story I am lucky to be a part of and one that I hope we can all feel at some point… either to find home in ourselves, or in someone else. If you do – don’t let anything get in the way of that feeling. Soak in it and remember it; and pass it on.

All the love,
~KC
