“People want pictures of YOU,” they say. But I don’t really like things to be focused on me. I want things focused on the MESSAGE. “But you GOTTA give them more of YOU!”… OK… they want more pics of me? Then we are going to do it MY WAY.
Extreme Reality began as a project to make fun of, explore and push back against how obsessed our culture is with staging unrealistic photos of ourselves for the sake of social media likes. It turned into so much more. I found in this project an exploration of self.
This project has two sides, the extreme actual reality of my life (Part One), and an extremely over the top staged series called #satire.
(PART 1) The extreme actual reality of my life – a black and white series of photos showing what you would see if you actually followed me around all day.
Black and white brings out the incredibly un-exciting nature of everyday life doing things like making a grocery list, meditating, or playing with my dog. And at the same time, I had to admit that this is not at all normal. I have the hard earned luxury of waking up everyday and doing exactly what I want to do. I work on language, I meditate, I workout, I play with my Frenchie, Maxwell. If I want, I take a whole day off for silence and peace. This is not really normal, is it? But it’s MY normal. And it may not be as boring as I think to everyone else.
