Everyone talks about letting go. Releasing your need to control the situation in order to feel more free and in sync with the flow of life. As you enjoy more time in later stages, you might start to think you have mastered letting go. For me, letting go is a running theme in the lessons for me in this life. Here we have it again. My house In Virginia went on the market Thursday night while I was in California. My flight the next day was supposed to land in time for me to have a one hour buffer to get ready for showings. Murphy’s law struck and my flight was delayed, by exactly one hour. Very funny, universe! So here I was, on a flight without cell service, for the next six hours, knowing that when I land, I will not get there in time to tidy up and take the dog out. My nearly 18 year old has been enjoying a bit of bachelor practice at home with the dog for a couple of days now. I’m not sure what the house looks like right now. And there’s not a frickin thing I can do about it. I managed to get a note off to him to warn him of the showing and ask him to tidy up and crate the dog. He’s amazingly reliable and I am so lucky and thankful for that. But this is our first showing and I am freaking out over my lack of control. The fact that I do not get to verify the readiness of our house for this most momentous showing is spiking my cortisol. I try a Simon Sinek technique and just keep telling myself, “this is exciting!“ You see, the physical symptoms of nervousness and stress are exactly the same as those if excitement. The idea is that you just have to reframe it in your head. It’s sort of working. Meanwhile, I have got to let go of my need to control this situation. I am going to be in this airplane and subsequently in rush hour traffic while my teenager prepares the house for showing. This is divine interference. It’s my worst possible scenario. I may have manifested this by specifically trying to avoid it. So the universe, in its wisdom, has used this to help me learn to let go. There is nothing more I can do. Let go. It will be what it will be and sitting here stressing over it will not change that. But wait! I remind myself that I am never powerless. I can send Reiki to this situation. And then I can let it be. Because even letting go is doing something. Turning it over to the divine is perhaps the most powerful thing we can do. I will do that. I lean back, close my eyes and begin sending Reki to my son, to the real estate agents involved and to the potential buyer. I send it to the house that they should all feel peace and joy there. I send it to my Frenchie, Maxwell that he should not worry and I will be home soon. I send it to myself that I will turn this over to the divine. I send it to the universe that all is just exactly as it should be. Thank you for getting me out of my own way.
