What a time to be experiencing life. There are only a few tiny things in my world that are not rapidly changing at blindly fast speed. My favorite analogy for major shifts in your life is this: imagine you are on an island (your current situation), and you want to go to another island. So you wade out into the surf. It is challenging and resistant. But once you get past the surf, things get easier, but also more lonely and desolate. You swim steadily for a long time. You can’t see the shore of your new island yet. And then, one day, there it is! You are so close! But to get to the shores you have to swim through the surf. Waves are hitting you from behind and dragging you about. The surf tosses you around more violently the closer you get, and then… peace. You find yourself deposited on the sand, birds chirping, sun shining, and all is at peace. You look back on your journey and marvel at what just happened. Right now, I am in the surf, approaching shore, tossed about but I am so close that I can feel the sand under my toes sometimes. My youngest just graduated high school. It has been a week of celebration. The house sale closes in a week and we are days from moving a spartan amount of things into a little third floor apartment for a few months while we finalize our full time travel plans. The dream is rapidly becoming reality. One more week in the surf to go! Meanwhile, the outside world is in turmoil. Fear has turned to anger and hate. Damn, I am tired of being right. I believe it will continue to emerge out of our collective humanity for another few months to a year. It wants to be released. And release it we must. Between everything in my own home and outside of it, it is all far too much to track. I don’t have the emotional or intellectual bandwidth to handle it all. I am forced to not track any of it, and to just let it be what it needs to be… all of it. Just flow with it. This is good practice.
