I have been floundering around a bit, burned out from putting out a record setting five books, selling my house in Virginia, buying a tour bus and launching out on full time travel while creating a new base in Texas. Burnout is totally understandable and I had compassion for myself in that, allowing myself to just rest, toy around with fun short term projects and take it easy. But soon enough there was a frustration with not having any one particular project that gripped me to the point of obsession. Knowing that discomfort is the gateway to growth, I allowed the feeling of frustration and discomfort. I welcomed it. Good! I am about to grow. By relaxing into the discomfort, welcoming it, and connecting to it, the answer came. My next topic of obsession will be the freedom that I have created for myself. Rueben and I noticed that, although we worked hard to put ourselves in a situation of ultimate freedom, we have not yet emerged into that freedom very far. Decades of conditioning are hard to break. Each topic I study, I have studied though the lens of the eleven stages of human development and how to help people along their journeys of self-understanding (see Purna Asatti for details on the stages). So here are the questions for my next obsession: FREEDOM.
  • What is it to be truly free?
  • How can I challenge myself to emerge into my freedom?
  • What might I learn about myself and humanity at large by meeting the challenge to be truly free?
  • As I face each challenge task, what stages do I find myself in?
  • What experiences are important in learning to be free?
I will be creating a set of challenges for myself that push me further into my freedom. Stay tuned!
