I was swamped for a minute there. But swamped is a choice. So it was time for an 80/20 analysis of all the ways I am spending not my time, but my ATTENTION. Some things are time wasters and some  things are attention wasters, and some things are both. There are things that don’t take up much of your time, but they are in your attention at all times. Social media is a big time waster and an even bigger attention waster for me. So I tried an experiment. One day, I told myself that, “Just for today, I am not going to look at social media.” And for that day, I did not look even once. Then again the next day. And here is the big important thing that I noticed: my will to create, my will to avoid unhealthy habits, and my will to get things done in general skyrocketed. That’s when it hit me. Social media, including YouTube, if not used for tutorials, DRAINS MY WILL. Never mind the wasted time or how it takes up part of your attention. Are these things detrimental to your WILL? That is terrifying. Maybe it’s just me, but it would be worth a look to ask yourself if there is anything in your life, social media or anything else, that drains your will at large. It may be a new and worthy metric to help you choose how to add things and subtract things from your life.
