The theme of this month has been massive self growth. It started with shadow work. Shadow work is where you shine a light on all the parts of yourself that you hid away because they were, at the time, unallowable, for some reason. Life seems to me like a very long exercise in shadow work, rather than a one-and-done. As soon as you think you have cleaned it all up and unified the self, there is just a bit more to discover. I find that shadow work, for me, tends to move backwards in time. The easier stuff closer to the surface is the most recently experienced. It takes time to get down to the childhood traumas, and the things we put into the shadow prior to 7 years old. This month I was working on some 3-13 year old issues around transgression and anger. What I found was profound: anger is a very important emotion. Anger reminds us that we have a choice and it motivates us to take action. When someone transgresses against us, at first we are shocked and frozen. As an adult, the healthy response would look like: Shock/frozen >> Anger/motivation >> Action >> Release. Anger is the gateway to action. Action allows you to take your power back. Once you have taken your power back, all is in balance now and you can let it go. If the process gets stuck, you can’t let it go. So this month I learned how to feel anger, and how to use anger as a stepping stone to action and release so that I could let go of some very old events. Some people get stuck in anger and that is far more common. But in my case, I was stuck in shock, and anger was a key gateway that had to be experienced on the path to release. It was all rather intense but so worth the effort.
