I love humanity. But sometimes, I don’t like it very much. I confess this, because sometimes people are not enjoyable to be around. Sometimes humanity is bent on confrontation, or violence or some other form of destruction. When your mission is a global one with a desire to help 8 Billion people, there will be times when humanity doesn’t seem worth the effort. There will be times when people are ugly to you. There will be times when you wonder what is the point of this experiment in existence we call life and humanity and Earth. Being human is hard, because of the polarities that are built into this existence. It is OK to take a break from your global mission focus to just work with those who want to be helped, or just those who can see why it all matters. It is true that when humanity is at its worst, we are needed the most. But damn, it is hard. I am not immune to these bouts of existentialism. And lately, watching humanity emerge out of the Stage 2 experience of pandemic mindset, into the Stage 3 focus on fear and needs which inevitably leads to confrontation and violence, I watch us collectively go around the cycle again, knowing there is a mix of guilt, shame, empathy, focus on others, then anger, offense and political focus before the inevitable live and let live. We have a lot more ugliness to get through before we will find peace as a species. I still believe it is not just possible but inevitable. In these times when it becomes so hard to see the potential, I focus on the portion of humanity that IS so very worth the effort. There are those that need your gifts. There are those who are working towards similar missions. There are those who would surround you with love, and take joy in receiving that same love back again. Within this storm of humanity’s current state, I bless you with this: May you find connection with those who share your mission. May you be surrounded with love and care. May your light of purpose never go out, even if it has to dim for just a little while to find its strength again.
