Time, unencumbered by expectation (mine or others), is my ideal situation. Not a task list. Maybe a routine of a general order but no expectation. Such time is open to surprise, open to intuition, and open to divine guidance. The expectations I am avoiding here look like self-imposed task lists, and all the societal expectations. For example, society says that when you publish a book or put out a new album, you must go into a months-long period of marketing including speaking tours, rounds of media interviews, and non-stop marketing, advertising and publicity… plus all the time consuming effort that goes into preparing all of that.
NO. I will not. Why? Why, exactly. Why do those things? To make money? I don’t need money. To get famous? I don’t want to be famous. To get the word out? Word of mouth between real people in the brick and mortar world actually accounts for 93% of all social transmission of information; people talking to people at work, at home, at football games, etc. (see Contaigous by Jonah Berger). Therefore, digital marketing efforts are useless to me. So, NO.. . I am not going to do that.
I will spread the word to one person at a time in the real world. I will offer peace and joy to everyone I meet. If students and speeches are to be, the opportunities will come when they come. This feels like a great weight has been lifted. Thank you for this freedom.
